Project Description

We are proud to share a bespoke metalwork project completed in Clifton, Somerset by West Country Blacksmiths.

The project required the blacksmiths to bespoke design and make a balcony and staircase for the rear of the property and handrails, railing and a gate for the front.

The metalwork has been designed to be in-keeping with the period of the property and the character of the surrounding area.

All the metalwork has been galvanised to offer the best possible rust protection prior to treating and paint finishing to the colour of semi-matt black. The flooring for the balcony is made from Yellow Balau hardwood.

As a bespoke metalwork project, this really was a complex one. The balcony is designed to wrap around the curved window and the staircase is designed to spiral 180 degrees to land perfectly on the walkway below. The balcony was made to both a third party survey and a structural engineers design. Using this information our CAD designers produced drawings to allow the metalwork to be made to a supreme level of accuracy.

Although less complicated in engineering terms, the metalwork for the front of the property had its own complexities. The metalwork was needed to suit the shape and size of each opening perfectly and needed to be both decorative and practical. The metalwork has alot of forge detail and texture. Every detail has been considered including the gate having a self closing system for easy of use.

The designers, engineers and blacksmiths worked together to produce simply stunning metalwork which was made and finished beautiful. A case of simple metalwork made well.

Our client said -‘Its wonderful. we are so pleased with the work. it a beautiful addition to our home’.
