Project Description

A bespoke church handrail made for the Church of the Holy Trinity in Ash Priors, near Taunton, Somerset.

The blacksmiths were tasked to bespoke make an internal handrail to assist the congregation. The handrail had to suit the 15th century church building and had to receive a church faculty and approved by heritage officers.

The handrail is hand forged from steel to curve around a wall and up steps. The handrail was made to fix to the main face of the walls and avoid the need for fixing to the beautiful exposed stone work.

The handrail starts and ends with a handcrafted blacksmiths scroll and is finished with a traditional beeswax.

The handrail was very gratefully received and we received the below letter from the church –

Dear West Country Blacksmiths

We are very pleased with the result, and are already putting the handrail to good use – thank you for your artistic skill and attention to every detail.

Once again, many thanks

Thank you for the kind words

We have been privileged to have been involved in a number of church handrail projects previously including both internal and external projects. We enjoy the church based projects as each project comes with its own design requirements. It a privileged to know that we can leave a small piece of our skill in these amazing landmarks for many future generations to enjoy.
