Project Description

Large decorative fire tools made by the blacksmiths of West Country Blacksmiths

West Country Blacksmiths are pleased to share pictures from a recent project where they produced some truly beautiful and unique fire iron.

This unusual project, which is for a castle in Ireland, came from a designer based in London who West Country Blacksmiths are always pleased to work in partnership with. The three-piece set is made to complement the existing fireplace and consisted of a poker, shovel and folk, with three large hanging hooks.

The metalwork has been fully forge from steel, on the traditional coal forge of Allerford Forge, the home of West Country Blacksmiths in Somerset and is finished with a heat-treated and traditional beeswax finish.

The team was delighted to take up the changed and produced the metalwork to an exquisite, better than the customer was expecting. This project is one the team are truly proud off as it display the versatility of the metalworkers skills and is truly a one-off project.

The pictures below show the scale of the irons which are roughly an average chest height. the pictures display the metalwork in various production stages and the completed decorative fire iron. Unfortunately we don’t have a completed photo of the metalwork in situ.
