A single bespoke made trophy produced for the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge – Exmoor 2019
West Country Blacksmiths were honoured to be invited to design and make five bespoke trophies for the Samworth Brothers 2019 charity challenge event held on Exmoor.
Samworth brothers hold a triathlon-style challenge to raise money for charity biannually. Each year the event moves to a new location and raised money for both local and national charities.
Exmoor was chosen as the home for the 2019 event with the winners taking home one of the five stunning stags head trophies made by West Country Blacksmiths.
The blacksmiths were tasked to produce design ideas to depict Exmoor. These idead included Exmoor ponies or simply the beautiful Exmoor scenery but, from the concepts we produced, the stag head was unanimously chosen by all involved in the event.
The Stags head trophies were fully handmade from steel and mounted onto slices of wind felled wood from the Holnicote Estate to make every part of the trophies truly Exmoor.
Alison Rudkin, of Samworth Brothers, said: “We are so pleased that we were recommend to West Country Blacksmiths by the local community as the metalwork they have produced for us is absolutely stunning and better than we could have ever imagined. It’s been a privileged to work with such a talented team of tradesmen.”
The event raised well in excess of £318,000 for charity. As a thank you to the community of Exmoor seven local charities received donations from the money raised at the vent totalling £60,000. The local charities chosen were The Caremoor For Exmoor Scheme receiving £15,000, Porlock Youth Club and Porlock Weir gig club each receiving an awards of £10,000, the Dovery Museum in Porlock receiving an award of £7,000, and the Porlock apple press receiving £3,000, Minehead RNLI received £10,000 & £5,000 for the Minehead Merlins cycling club.
