Project Description

West Country Blacksmiths are privileged to bespoke designed and made new alter rails for St Peter’s Church on the Quay in Minehead, Somerset.

This project has a special place in our hearts as our team are all local and based in or around Minehead. So to be asked to design and produce such a unique and beautiful set of rails for a real local landmark for generations to enjoy was a real honour.

The metalwork was bespoke designed by the blacksmith working with the church official to produce a design which is fitting for a church and captors the harbour side location.

The metalwork was fully hand forged and finished by forging, texturing and polishing the steel and treating the polished metalwork with an antiquing acid. The top rail is made from a dark hardwood which has been wax finished.

The new alter rails were formally rededicated during a service at the chapel and were very well received and are a much admired new feature at the church.

The creation of these alter rails featured heavily in the local media. Since the installation of the metalwork we have been blown away by the number of people who have seen and commented on them.

We would like to thank the parish for giving us the opportunity to work on this project.
