Estate fencing and gate project at the Pencarrow house by West Country Blacksmiths. Designed and made in association with Hodgson Rural Consultancy & the English Heritage.

West Country Blacksmiths were honoured to be asked to bespoke design, make and install estate fencing and gates for Pencarrow House in Cornwall.

The smiths were tasked with restoring and reusing as many original cast iron dear fencing posts and wrought iron stock fence as possible, whilst also remaking and installing replica posts. These posts we used to reproduce a version of the original. The newly made post were made from steel and hot dip galvanised prior to painting to the colour of heritage black. These were posts were used to support 19 strand galvanised rope wire to produce many hundreds of meter of estate fencing.

Alongside the fencing was a number of estate style gate , some as a full size field gate and others as a pedestrian access gates. The gates were made traditional with hand forged detail and again finished with a galvanised and heritage black painted finish.

About Pencarrow House

Pencarrow is a designed parkland which is situated between the towns of Bodmin and Wadebridge in north-east Cornwall. The house is Grade II* listed  and is the home of the Molesworth-St. Aubyn family, whose ancestors have owned the estate since the 17th century. The house and gardens are open to the public from March through September and the grounds are farmed. The recreation of the estate fencing and gates allow the land to be farmed.

The gardens and house are a much loved visitor attraction thousand of people from all over the world. What you may not know if that Pencarrow is also regularly used as a setting for film and TV.  These most recently include Doc Martin and Fisherman’s Friends film.
