Blacksmiths made decorative panel

Decorative furniture panels forged from steel. Undertaken by West Country Blacksmiths, the panels are a replica of original metalwork, which is on display in the V&A Museum in London.

At West Country Blacksmiths we offer a complete premium metalwork service from our National Trust forge on the edge of Exmoor in Somerset, working both locally across Somerset & Devon and throughout the country.

West Country Blacksmiths boast a team of uniquely talented craftsmen, whose skills are second to none. Harnessing the vision, skills and experience of top blacksmiths alongside some of the most talented engineers, metalworkers, coded welding experts and designers allows West Country Blacksmiths to offer a unique service, including a bespoke design option catering for design in both 2D and 3D.

Blacksmiths made Carp Sculpture

Carp sculpture designed and made to order by Dominic Hesp, head blacksmith at West Country Blacksmiths.

A feature of West Country Blacksmiths is that our team possess the skills to allow us to work on both new and restoration projects and with all forms of metal, including wrought and cast iron, mild and stainless steel, bronze, brass, aluminium and Cor-ten steel.

We work with private individuals, other metalwork companies, contractors, designers, architects, local authorities and other organisations both locally and nationally, and we are always pleased to welcome new enquiries and offer our artistic and engineering skills and experience to prospective projects.

We are delighted to welcome visitors to our forge to discuss an idea or simply to browse our onsite blacksmith’s gallery, which displays a small selection of metalwork and pictures of previous projects. Visitors are also welcome to bring in items to discuss restoration or repair.

Blacksmiths made decorative balustrade

This hand-forged metal balustrade was designed and made by Dominic Hesp, head blacksmith at West Country Blacksmiths.

Our office, workshop and blacksmith’s gallery are open Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. We are also often open on Saturdays between 10.30 am and 2.00 pm, but please call to confirm. If you have a specific enquiry, we would always recommend making an appointment before visiting, so we can ensure we offer the very best service by having the most experienced people available to advise on the particular project type.

We pride ourselves on offering only the very best and personal service from start to finish, which we believe can only be provided by working directly with the company owners alongside the head designer and the top blacksmiths, who between them hold more than 75 years of experience in this field.

If you like our work, please share it with your friends and help us by liking us on or linking us to any of your social media pages.

To keep right up to date on our latest designs, current projects and the goings-on at the forge, why not follow us on Facebook or Twitter, or sign up for our monthly newsletter?
